«The Gem and Jewellery Industry Today and Tomorrow»
Hosted by the National Gemmological Association
October 1 – 2, 2025. Moscow. Russia
Association Role
Gemstones undergo a long journey from the mine to the consumer: extraction, cutting, jewelry manufacturing, wholesale, and retail. Gemologists work at every stage of this chain. Today, the jewelry industry needs proper positioning to address the threats posed by the emergence and spread of counterfeits, synthetics, and misleading consumer information.
Similar to professional associations of jewelers, gemologists also felt the need for a professional community that would allow them to develop a unified strategy, coordinate efforts, and tackle the challenges of the times for everyone involved in the gemstone and jewelry industry. In Russia, this community became the National Gemological Association (NGA).
The need for cooperation with foreign institutions and specialized organizations became particularly evident in 2015 during discussions with international colleagues. On December 8, 2015, at a meeting of the Moscow State University Gemological Center Alumni Club, it was decided to establish a professional community based on the club. This would preserve the best traditions of the Alumni Club while expanding opportunities to engage industry specialists who were not graduates of the MSU GemCenter. On April 25, 2016, the National Gemological Association was officially launched.
The Association provides ample opportunities for finding partners and expanding connections. By creating this community, it became possible to support domestic producers, promote their interests nationally and internationally, establish close ties with colleagues from other countries, sign cooperation agreements, and administer professional inquiries.
The activities of the National Gemological Association involve acquiring new knowledge, skills, and expertise, continuously improving professional standards, and broadening the horizons of its members. Internal communications within the community foster the emergence and discussion of new ideas, projects, and business models.
Currently, the Association’s project is in development and open to any ideas, with all interested parties invited to collaborate. At regular general meetings and gemological conferences, strategic and developmental directions of the community are discussed, along with the most pressing issues in gemology and global industry news. Scientific presentations are made, and market professionals exchange opinions.
Thanks to the establishment of the Association, we have formed strong business connections, signed cooperation agreements, and facilitated professional inquiries with colleagues from other countries. NGA members are committed to further developing the professional community and elevating its capabilities to new heights.
