On October 4, 2017, the National Gemological Association hosted a business forum dedicated to the key issues and challenges facing the industry. The speakers included leading authorities in gemology – true professionals committed to elevating gemological science and expertise in our country to the global stage.
The forum featured presentations on a range of topics, including gemological education, legislative changes, the possibility of establishing a unified diamond grading standard, and the transition to international valuation standards. Researchers from the R&D Department of the GemCenter of Moscow State University Laboratory presented some of the most remarkable case studies encountered by the laboratory’s experts in their daily work. A lively discussion followed the presentation on Russian-language terminology for describing the color of colored gemstones.
The latest NGA gathering proved to be exceptionally rich in content. In addition to the presentations, the forum featured a gemological competition with a valuable prize generously offered by the Ksenia Podnebesnaya Pearl House, as well as a book presentation of Vlad Yavorsky’s “Gemstones.” Plans and trips for 2018 were also discussed.
Continuing the cherished tradition of the GemCenter of Moscow State University course alumni, the Jewelry House “Podnebesnaya i Podnebesny” presented the GemCenter with a teaching collection of natural colored gemstones, which will help new students acquire unique gemological skills.
