On December 4, 2019, the NGA held its sixth conference. The event brought together 350 professionals whose work is connected with gemstones: representatives of government bodies, and market participants spanning the entire value chain from mining to consumer – including GOKHRAN, the Jewelers’ Guild of Russia Association, ALROSA, AlmazYuvelirExport, and retail jewelry companies.
The conference featured presentations from 12 expert speakers. Among the Russian speakers were Ilya Klyuev (President of the CLUEV Jewelry House), Anna Fedotova (ALROSA Diamonds), Yuri Shelementyev (GemCenter of Moscow State University), Roman Serov (GemCenter of Moscow State University), Vladimir Zboikov (Jewelers’ Guild of Russia Association), Alexander Stolyarevich (GemCenter of Moscow State University), Mikhail Anosov (Russian Minerals), Viktor Moiseikin (MOISEIKIN Jewelry House), Pavel Barannik (Diamond Club), and Sergei Buk (ALROSA Technology).
Special guests of the conference included international speakers: Peter Lyckberg (Luxemburg Museum of Natural History, independent researcher, and renowned collector), and Rizwan Nayeem (founder of Orofini LTD, Sri Lanka, and one of the leading speakers at the International Colored Gemstone Association – ICA Congress).
The presentations covered a diverse range of topics, addressing key issues relevant to the industry, including: major global trends in the gemstone market, the importance of determining a gemstone’s origin, the principles of successful 21st-century marketing, key directions in international gemological research, and other subjects.
At present, a professional community in the gemstone sector is being established in our country. This process is strategically aimed at creating a systemic approach within the jewelry industry, which over time will elevate the Russian market to a fundamentally new level. The next conference is tentatively scheduled for September 2020.
